growth

growth when i do not recognize my hands / when i am no longer planted / when standing is a staircase much too steep / i write down my limits / revise, reach / bones liquified / i gather my roots/ place palm to cheek / what house have we built when earth turns to ash? / i packed up my things, left my grief in the sink / stitched up my body with needle and thread / like icarus, flown too close to the sun / i leapt, with melted remains, undone / ruined, it was then i recall, i remembered / weeds that grow between concrete cracks / that every drought holds a single blade of grass / that diamond is coal baptized in fire / and home is a resurrection dance sojourner brown
