What we do

Ambassador program

Gurls Talk

The Gurls Talk Ambassador Program brings together young leaders aged 18-24 for a year of workshops, action projects, peer support, mentorship, and an in-person convening. The program equips advocates with mental health education, skills and support, and empowers them to become agents of change in their community.

Goals

Through monthly engagement, the Ambassadors program aims to:

  • Provide resources and training to build mental health literacy and arm young advocates with accurate data and psychoeducation
  • Encourage community building, engagement, and action through ongoing advocacy projects
  • Empower young leaders’ personal and professional growth through one-on-one mentorship
  • Provide mental health support by creating a space of safety for participants to share lived experiences and provide each other with mutual peer support
  • Shift the culture and destigmatize mental illness by creating accurate, nuanced, and in-depth conversations on a range of mental health topics

Program components

The Ambassadors program engages deeply through:

  • Monthly Sessions:
12 3-hour long monthly sessions held on Zoom or in person.
Each session is composed of monthly check-ins to reflect on the past month, a guest speaker, and group discussions related to that month’s theme. Sessions include Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention, storytelling workshops, group outings to foster connection, and mindfulness-based activities.
  • Action Projects:
Ambassadors develop advocacy projects to educate the wider public and destigmatize mental health.
  • Convening:
Ambassadors meet in person to continue their mental health training, foster a sense of community, reflect on the program and further cement the ambassador’s roles as mental health advocates.
